Supermarkets

If you don’t know why a supermarket is qualified as ‘super’ then perhaps you should visit a regular market for comparative analysis - though relative to no market at all, a plain market is itself ‘super’, that is to say, superior. Supermarkets are not merely ‘super’ or ‘awesome’, but truly are marvels of modernity that are far superior to the tenable nature of having to have an entire society live as subsistence farmers, with livelihoods being balanced on the razor’s edge of the outcome of annual crops. Although, the inventory and profit margins of supermarkets are practically balanced on razor’s edge nonetheless, but this is superior to an entire society’s existence being balanced on razor’s edge. Of course, by proxy one supposes that society still is; that is, if supply trucks completely stopped their deliveries to grocery stores, or if the power grid went down and refrigeration was no longer tenable, etc., then society would descend into something approximating anarchy on a scale we have not yet witnessed in the modern era. Only those already living or prepared to live like the Amish would forge into the future well-equipped for survival. Regardless, the abundance and variety of food available at a grocery store, or supermarket, is perhaps one of the greatest achievements of both modernity and capitalism. Not only can you get fresh fruits and vegetables and meats, you can get dozens of different flavors of ice cream! We should truly walk into a supermarket in absolute awe at the relative ease of access to clean, healthy food that is perpetually available. Like all good things, when they are always present and accessible, we take them for granted. We ought not worry if the super-abundance of supermarkets suddenly became not so much for some unforeseen reason, but we ought to appreciate them while they’re here - much like the continual, abundant access we have to SUPERnatural sustenance as well!
