Managers

A manager is a curious position to exist, and your opinion of one probably highly correlates to whether you’ve been one or not. If you’ve not been one but had one over you, you likely dislike them with a reticent form of contempt. If you’ve been one yourself, you probably dislike them even more than that, but for a different reason. While managers certainly have the proxy authority of the owner or ‘boss’, the also have the responsibility of dealing with problems when things go sideways, and topsy turvy for that matter. Managers are rarely the producers in a work environment, but do oversee the producers or ‘workers’ and therefore are accountable for the productivity to a large - as it should be…more authority, more responsibility and visa-versa. There is the parable of the shrewd manager who was commended for his shrewdness - that is, his craftiness and cunning - though we shouldn’t miss his implicit condemnation for his mismanagement of the possessions, the very thing he was in fact tasked with doing. The Apostle Paul reminds Timothy that we, especially as men, are tasked with managing our own family well, this even being a litmus test for candidacy in eldership, and must all be prepared to give an account of our dealings, as managers do to their masters.
