Perspiration
I have the keen advantage of having the majority of sweat beads that have formed on my skin come from recreation and not from grievously burdensome physical labor - though I feign to mention I have, indeed, had some from the latter. This is largely due to the glorious invention of conditioned air from electrified compressors with freon, but that’s neither here nor there. All the same, perspiration was effectively a result of the curse Adam procured through his rebellion, albeit the work itself was not. Work was meant to be pleasant, gratifying, dominion-taking…all of which it still is, or at least can be. However, work is now frustrated by the curse. Engines break down, teeth decay, wood splinters; and sometimes, the very tools used to fix these problems also break down or cause more damage than productivity. Frustration ensues. Work is hard and frustrating, and thusly the sweat of the brow is both metaphorical and literal. Yet, God is on a grand mission to invite us back into the Garden of Eden - a restored garden in the New Heaven and New Earth. He also have given us hints, glimpses, glimmers, shadows, and types of what this existence will be like. One glimpse is that we will worship through work, and we will not perspire, as it was always meant to be. God gave the priests that served before him in the temple the peculiar prerogative of wearing garments that would not allow them to perspire while they discharge their duties before him. In this, one glimmer of hope shines bright: work will once again be gratifying without all the grime, and without all the sweat…as far as the curse is found!
