There came a time in the course of human history that simply carrying as many freshly picked berries or nuts from the tree distant to camp as one could fit into their arms became simply intolerable. That is, not enough produce could be garnered in a solitary trip. Having a device to aid in carrying capacity was needed, and as it said, "necessity is the mother of invention"; though I'm not so sure that endorsements and fame are not also credible contenders to 'necessity' in the modern world as matrons of invention. Nonetheless, how do you start if all you have to start is nature itself? Dried clay - or pottery - is just fine for holding water, but is rather cumbersome for carrying long distances. However, weaving branches and/or grass together could do just the trick...and it would have been quite a trick the first time it was discovered, indeed! Suddenly, one can haul their precious cargo for miles with minimal extra effort. Even if that precious cargo is the future deliverer of Israel, floating down the Nile or the apostle to the gentiles being lowered in such through an opening in the wall.
